It’s been a busy and rewarding few months for the Yate & Sodbury u3a Art Group, with successful exhibitions at both Yate Heritage Centre and Cass Art Bristol.

Our February exhibition at Yate Heritage Centre attracted strong visitor numbers and a great deal of positive feedback. It was especially encouraging to see so many people spending time looking closely at the work, chatting to artists and supporting local creativity. The exhibition featured a wide range of subjects and styles, from landscapes and architecture to portraits and more imaginative pieces, created by members of the group working in a variety of media.

Building on that success, a selection of group members then had the opportunity to exhibit at Cass Art on Park Street in Bristol — an exciting chance to show work in the heart of the city. The exhibition brought a very different audience and atmosphere, and it was particularly pleasing to receive such positive comments from the Cass Art team about the quality and variety of the work on display.

Alongside exhibitions, the group continues to enjoy regular workshops and practical sessions. Recently, we had an excellent animal drawing workshop which was thoroughly enjoyed by members, and we are also looking forward to trying our first life drawing session later in June.

Our next exhibition will take place at Yate Library from 8–29 June 2026 and will feature over 70 original paintings by local artists. Many of the works will be available to buy. The exhibition will be open during normal library opening hours:

  • Saturday: 9.30am–12.30pm

  • Closed Wednesdays and Sundays

Do also look out for updates on Facebook and Instagram in the run-up to the exhibition.

As Group Leader, one of the most rewarding aspects has been seeing members grow in confidence and continue developing their work in such a friendly and supportive environment. It’s exciting to see the group continuing to go from strength to strength.
