By the time you read this, the paintings will probably be at Yate Library ready for the U3A Yate & Sodbury Art Group Summer Exhibition, which opens on Monday 8 June.

Over the past few weeks, members have been bringing in their artwork, completing entry forms and volunteering to help steward the exhibition. This year's show has grown beyond our original expectations and will feature more than 80 artworks by 20 local artists.
As Group Leader, one of the less glamorous jobs has been organising the exhibition administration. Every painting has had to be numbered, cross-referenced to the artist, title and price, and added to the exhibition lists that visitors will use while viewing the show. It has been a reminder that exhibitions involve a lot more than simply hanging paintings on walls!
The reward comes on hanging day, when a collection of individual artworks finally comes together as a coherent exhibition. One of the pleasures of organising these events is seeing the variety of styles, subjects and approaches that members bring to the group. This year's exhibition includes landscapes, wildlife, portraits, architecture and much more.

I will also be exhibiting several of my own paintings and am looking forward to seeing how visitors respond to the work on display.
If you are in the area during June, please do call into Yate Library and have a look.
